Pro Hac Vice Information
Beginning Jan. 1, 2011, out-of-state attorneys seeking permission to appear pro hac vice in an Ohio proceeding must first register with the Supreme Court Office of Bar Admissions. Online pro hac vice registration is available.
After an out-of-state attorney completes the registration requirements and receives a Certificate of Pro Hac Vice Registration, the attorney must file a Motion for Permission to Appear Pro Hac Vice with an Affidavit of Out-of-State Attorney with the tribunal.
If the out-of-state attorney receives permission to appear pro hac vice in an Ohio proceeding, the attorney must notify the Office of Bar Admissions by filing a Notice of Permission to Appear Pro Hac Vice through the online registration system and uploading a timestamped copy of the court granting their appearance.
NOTICE: Beginning Jan. 1, 2016, amendments to Gov. Bar R. XII will permit pro hac vice registration by an attorney who resides in this state, is the spouse of an active member of the United States armed forces assigned to a military installation within this state, and intends to practice law in this state only for the duration of the assignment of the spouse. Those attorneys who may qualify for pro hac vice registration on the basis of this provision should call the Office of Bar Admissions at 614.387.9352 in order to register.
